The Queen Mother, Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa

“Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire.”

It is with profound shock, intense sorrow, and a heavy heart that the Rwenzori Fraternity Association (RWEFRA) learns of the untimely passing of His Majesty Rukirabasaija Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the Omukama of Tooro Kingdom.

A dark cloud has settled over the Tooro sub-region and the entire nation of Uganda. We stand in absolute solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Tooro during this period of immeasurable grief.

As an association that unites the diverse peoples hailing from the greater Rwenzori sub-region, RWEFRA holds a deep appreciation for the complex, rich history and intertwined traditional ties that define our communities. Many of our esteemed members proudly subscribe to the Tooro Kingdom, while others share deep historical and ancestral bonds, including the traditional ties between the Bakonzo and Batooro. In this moment of profound loss and grief, those regional boundaries dissolve into a collective mourning.

The departure of a leader who spent nearly his entire life serving his people with humility, grace, and devotion is a loss felt by us all to the bone marrow. His Majesty King Oyo was a pillar of cultural identity, an inspiration to the youth, and a gentle guardian of heritage across the Rwenzori region. His dedication to regional unity, health initiatives, Local tourism promotion and community development leaves a lasting footprint that will not be forgotten.

On behalf of the entire membership of RWEFRA, we extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, the Kingdom leadership, and the people of Tooro.

We pray for fortitude, peace, and divine comfort for our members and the entire kingdom as we navigate this painful moment. May the ancestors guide his spirit, and may his soul rest in eternal, perfect peace.

In deep grief and cultural solidarity,

Ngobi M. Louis

President (RWEFRA)
